Before the WASH program, we had to go to a nearby water well to drink clean water, but even that water was not sufficient during the dry season, so we boiled the unsafe water if we had time and drank it. Otherwise, we were forced to drink the same contaminated water.
Nepal WASH
Providing CLEAN & SAFE water to communities as well as sanitation facilities.
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
Isaiah 12:3
The Project
In remote and rural areas of Nepal, many communities rely on polluted rivers, springs, and ponds for their water needs. This leads to a high prevalence of waterborne diseases such as dysentery, typhoid, and cholera, severely impacting infants, children, and adults annually. Our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects, implemented by International Needs Nepal (INNP) in partnership with INNZ, aim to transform these communities by providing access to clean, safe drinking water.
Objectives
- To provide sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water in selected rural and remote communities in Nepal.
- To reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases by improving water sources and sanitation facilities.
- To empower local communities with the knowledge and skills to maintain and manage water sanitation systems independently.
In April 2024, IN Nepal and IN New Zealand completed part of the ‘Sustainable Water & Sanitation for Rural Communities’ project. They installed a water well in Salghari village and two deep tube wells in Phatuwa Vijayapur, providing access to clean water for local communities in Kavre and Rautahat districts.
Impact
The project has provided over 250 families with safe drinking water, bringing joy and gratitude to the communities. Beyond clean water access, the wells have fostered unity and pride, as community members formed committees to maintain the wells, ensuring sustainability and symbolizing their resilience and empowerment.
There has been an improvement in community health and hygiene, reduction in waterborne diseases, and increased community engagement in maintaining water facilities.
We aim to raise $60,000 annually to support our community health initiatives. Access to essential health services is crucial for thriving communities, and with your generous contributions, we can provide the care and resources they need to lead healthier lives this year.
Suntali’s story of transformation
Suntali lives in Kapping Village, Nepal, and her life used to revolve around looking for water. Every day, she and her two children would walk 30 minutes, carrying up to 50 litres of water in bamboo baskets, and often they’d have to make the trip more than once. The WASH project in Nepal arrived to transform this situation.
Thanks to your help, the International Needs Nepal team repaired the village’s water system, severely damaged by the 2015 earthquake. Now, 40 households, including Suntali’s, have clean water right at home. Suntali can now spend more time on farming and her family, while her daughter Binita can focus on her studies. They even have water for their garden.
When we spoke with Suntali, she pressed her hands together and bowed, saying “Dhanyabad” (thank you), it was heartwarming. That smile is a testament of the impact of our supporters.
Suntali hopes more families can get the help they need, as many are still living without easy access to water.Your continued support can make this happen.
Donate today and help bring the "living water" Jesus speaks of into the lives of every individual.
We’re on a mission to raise $60,000 annually to keep our Water Projects flowing. Water is the essence of life, and with your generous help, we can ensure these communities have the safe, clean water they need this year.
