The Project
INNZ supports the Makonge Community Health Centre (MCHC) in Uganda, established by International Needs in 1994. Located over 30 kilometers from the nearest public hospital, MCHC serves rural communities around Lake Victoria and Buvuma District, facing challenges in staff retention and emergency response due to inadequate accommodation.
Objectives
- Improve access to quality healthcare for rural communities.
- Enhance staff welfare by providing on-site accommodation.
- Reduce turnover rates among medical staff.
- Increase efficiency in emergency response times.
- Strengthen healthcare delivery in hard-to-reach areas.
INNZ is supporting the construction of two self-contained units to accommodate medical staff on-site at MCHC. Phase 1 of the project is progressing well, nearing the wall plate level. The initiative aims to create a conducive working environment for healthcare professionals, ensuring better service delivery to the community.
Impact
With the construction of on-site housing, MCHC expects to improve staff welfare, reduce turnover, and enhance emergency response times. This will ultimately lead to better healthcare services for the 12,500 patients treated annually, significantly impacting the health outcomes of vulnerable families and communities in Kiyindi and surrounding areas.
To support these vital healthcare services, we rely on generous contributions from supporters like you. Your help ensures that Makonge Community Health Centre can continue providing life-saving care, improving health outcomes, and offering hope to vulnerable families and communities in Lake Victoria and surrounding areas.
Angel’s journey to recovery
Angel, a Primary 4 student at Namutambi Primary School in Mukono District, faced a challenging ordeal after a motorcycle accident left her with severe injuries to her left arm. Due to financial constraints, her caregiver couldn’t provide proper medical care, resulting in her condition worsening despite prolonged antibiotic and painkiller treatments.
Her situation changed when she participated in a Sports Festival for Children with Disabilities (CWDs). INUG staff noticed her deteriorating health and referred her to Afaayo Child Health Agency. There, Angel was diagnosed with chronic osteomyelitis of the left ulna, requiring urgent surgery.
With the support of INUG and Afaayo, Angel received the necessary medical treatment and surgery to correct her arm. Thanks to this crucial intervention, Angel is now a happy and healthy student, attending school regularly and enjoying life with renewed energy. Her recovery highlights the significant impact of timely medical assistance and community support.
