When Beatrice joined Ark Quest at age 5, she walked 3 km daily to school. Abandoned by her mother and raised by her elderly grandmother, they struggled with basic needs and school fees. Despite these hardships, Beatrice thrived at Ark Quest Education Centre, where she received the support she needed.

The Project
In Kenya, 11.7 million children lack access to three or more key services like safe drinking water, nutritious food, quality housing and education. In 2008, Calvine Ominde (founder & director of Ark Quest) initiated a feeding programme for 8 children in his village, which later became the Ark Quest Education Centre. This private Christian school, registered with the Kenyan Ministry of Education, helps to educate children while providing them with nutritious meals.
Objectives
- Empower vulnerable children and youth through education and training, helping them fulfil their potential.
- Enhance educational access for vulnerable school-aged children.|Develop entrepreneurial skills in youths and parents, enabling them to manage profitable business enterprises.
With your support, the Ark Quest Education Centre has not only educated and nourished children but also engaged them in farming activities, sports, recreation, and music. Recently, students received musical instruments from your donations, particularly from the Kids mid-winter concert in 2023.
Impact
Every year, over 100 students receive an education and two daily nutritious meals. Many students can’t afford the fees, however through the INCAP programme run by International Needs, these students can now have access to quality education and resources to keep them healthy.
Annually we need to raise NZD 60,000 to continue providing an education for the children in Kenya. Your support can contribute to having a more literate community and potentially incrementing the household income for Kenyan families.
How Ark Quest transformed Oside’s life
Oside’s parents have no formal employment and rely on scarce odd jobs to feed the family daily. They can’t afford clothes, shoes, or furniture. In 2018, her older sister tragically died from malaria.
In 2019, thanks to a generous sponsor, Oside joined Ark Quest School. This was a tremendous blessing, providing her with not only education but also nutritious meals. At Ark Quest, she is guaranteed a good breakfast and lunch before going home to her family. Imagine her excitement when she received two sets of uniforms and shoes from her sponsor.
By providing quality education and daily meals, the Ark Quest Education centre ensures that children like Oside have the opportunity to learn and grow in a nurturing environment.
