The Project
In poor urban communities in Cambodia, many children face severe barriers to education, making high school and university seem impossible. Financial constraints and lack of support limit their opportunities, trapping them in cycles of poverty and restricting their potential for personal and professional growth. Flame addresses this by providing scholarships and support, helping impoverished youth access higher education and achieve their full potential, despite the widespread barriers.

Chhoun’s dream coming true
Chhoun’s life changed dramatically thanks to a Flame scholarship. Growing up in poverty, her family rented a small house until her father was beaten. An older relative provided land, but they had no funds for construction, so Chhoun and her siblings helped build a rudimentary house without doors, windows, or a roof.
At 15, Chhoun found faith and prayed for a better life. Despite passing grade 12, her father needed her to work, so she couldn’t attend university. A pastor informed her about a place to apply for studying, but she missed the deadline and felt hopeless.
After praying for guidance, Chhoun discovered Flame, applied, and was accepted. She is now studying Chinese and English at the University of Cambodia. Her goal is to secure a good job to support her family financially, repay the loan for their land, and build a better house. She dreams of helping other children like her and hopes her family will also embrace Christianity.
