Dalia Mandal, from a financially struggling family with a day labourer father, found hope through International Needs. Supported by a relative, she received spiritual and practical education, including music, dance, and computer skills. Now studying theology online during the pandemic, she remains grateful for the life-changing opportunity.
Savar Children’s Village
Savar Children’s Village offers a safe haven and education for vulnerable girls in Bangladesh, empowering them to escape child marriage and abuse.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
Matthew 19:14
The Project
Bangladesh has one of the highest rates of child marriage globally, with 51% of young women married before their 18th birthday. Girls as young as 13 are often “sold” through the dowry system, risking neglect, abuse, and lack of education. The Savar Children’s Village provides a sanctuary for these at-risk girls, offering them a secure environment where they can live, learn, and grow away from the threats they face.
Objectives
- Provide a safe shelter and build a new 6-story dormitory to house vulnerable girls.
- Offer quality education and skill-building opportunities for girls.Ensure well-being and improve infrastructure for a safe and nurturing environment.
At the Savar Children’s Village, vulnerable girls find refuge, receive quality education, and gain essential skills. The project includes repairing existing school facilities and constructing a new dormitory to enhance living conditions and educational support.
Impact
Improved infrastructure at Savar Children’s Village will ensure 500 young girls enjoy their childhood, are well-prepared for the future, and can break the cycle of poverty and early marriage, contributing to a brighter future for Bangladesh.
For NZD 55 per month, you can sponsor a girl at Savar to receive an education. Your support will help vulnerable young girls in Bangladesh escape child marriage, abuse, and child labour. Your contribution helps IN Bangladesh build the new dormitory and expand their community impact, empowering more girls.
Sraboni’s story of hope
Sraboni Mandal was born into a Hindu family and came to the International Needs Savar Children’s Village at just 3 years old. Her journey began when an acquaintance brought her to the village so she could learn to read and become a good person. Her mother, her only guardian, left her in the village and moved to Dhaka for work when Sraboni was 2.
In 2010, while Sraboni was in third grade, her mother went to a wedding in Cox’s Bazar with her employers and tragically died in a car accident. At the village, Sraboni studied and learned dance, song, and Christian teachings, finding comfort in her faith. On April 17, 2014, she accepted Jesus as her Savior, marking a new path in her life.
Sraboni is pursuing a theology course, but the global pandemic closed educational institutions, preventing her from taking her HSC final exam, resulting in an auto pass. She aspires to be a nurse and serve people. Sraboni is deeply grateful for the support during the pandemic and prays for her benefactors and her country.
Your gift will enable more young girls to be educated and help them escape the traps of child marriage, abuse, and child labour.
Donate today; every contribution, no matter the size, helps IN Bangladesh build the new dormitory and expand their reach within the community.
